So I have 5 girls that I absolutely adore and who are in general very sweet. 2 of them are from a rescue and I have totally accepted that they may never be super accepting of being handled because of that. My other 3 girls are from a breeder. The issue I’m having with them is that they are quite nippy, especially with my hands and fingers. It’s very clearly not in fear or aggression but more so that everything they want to look at or inspect further needs to be nipped and I am having a really hard time figuring out how to make it stop if possible. I see so many people able to hand feed or just put their hand by their rats and get sniffed and licked. If I did that they would just nip at my hand. It makes me a little sad because I feel like I’m doing something wrong, and while it doesn’t hurt too bad and I know they aren’t doing it to be mean, it still makes me (and especially my boyfriend) nervous about handling and stuff like that. I really want to pet them and train them but it’s hard when I can’t give treats with my hand. It might be our fault from feeding them treats that I hold with my fingers every time I interacted with them when I just got them? Idk
