I could be in the wrong subreddit, if so, please direct me to one that would be able to better help my issue
I will try to explain my situation as cohesively as I can.
I play video games quite a bit, however, every now and then my game freezes for around 30 seconds at a time, and when it goes back to normal, my ping is in the thousands.
Now, I've been able to figure out that this issue lies within my upload speed for some reason. Whenever my internet is normal, it sits around 200-300 mbps, but whenever my internet is prone to ping spikes, it will sit at around 10-20 mbps.
Normally, I just unplug my router and wait a couple minutes before plugging it back in and restarting it. However, the frequency at which I've had to do this has only increased and its driving me insane.
One fix i did have for this issue was simply replacing my ethernet cord with a cat6 pure copper ethernet cord... however... my dog decided to chew it up in a state of anxiety so I've since had to go back to my old ethernet cord.
But I'm now attempting to look for a more permanent fix to this issue, but I do not know exactly where to start. I currently have a Gateway Router/Modem as provided by Xfinity/Comcast, but I don't know whether getting a separate Modem/Router combo is needed here, or if my solution lies is something much simpler than that.
If any of you are able to provide some insight into my debacle, it would be much appreciated.
