The New Great Migration (North to South) is trap. From a native of the south.
It breaks my heart to see it happen time and time again. People move down here for a better shot at life not realizing how much they're giving up and how much it's gonna cost them to get it back (either by moving back to the North or making the South like the North)
"Cost of living is cheaper in the south" : Stagnant wages, right to work laws, anti-worker laws, lack of unions, more expensive low quality healthcare, lack of social safety net. Anti-tenant laws. Lack of public transit.
A good rule is to judge a society (state) by how they treat its poorest. Please take a look at the rural black communities in those states.
"We can flip the south": Well, no you can't. Not anymore because they changed how much our vote is worth. Southern states are gerrymandered to hell and back. 3/5ths never left it just took a different appearance. Your family may have left the south but the KKK and their friends never did. They just stopped wearing the outfit because the need to hide their identities decreased due to the first great migration.
"I have job opportunities": Maybe for a while but look at all of the lay offs. There are no worker protections down here.
This "new great migration" is a scam and a Venus fly trap. Please don't fall for it.
Edit: I've worked in healthcare, the mail industry, union construction, and warehouses.
I've experienced how we are treated down here first hand. $10 wage is still a thing.
You may move here with a good education, but your children that are raised here WILL not have that privilege. Not without a battle. My parents enrolled me in the best public schools our state (South Carolina) had to offer. Transplants outperformed native students by a massive gap. I was the ONLY black student in most of advanced education classes (AP gifted and talented, honors courses) surrounded by a variety of others that didn't want me to succeed. Mostly the other students. At times it was the teachers.
I have multiple family members younger than me who never had a good opportunity to learn. The "good" schools in the south aren't made for us. Just like how the New Deal wasn't made to help us either.
I currently live in the Greater Charlotte Area. It's really bad down here. Tryna leave soon.
Maryland and Delaware are the only "safe" southern states for black Americans imo
Edit #2: this thread has so much good information.
