Backing up APK installation source

Hello everyone,

Most backup solutions I've seen will save the apps on your phone in APK format, then restore the APK directly from within the backup app.

This is an issue for me because it means the app is no longer tied to its respective app store, and will not update as a result.

I tested this with an app from the Play Store. I backed it up using Swift Backup, and when I went to restore it, Swift Backup was the one who installed the APK. Then I checked the Play Store and I couldn't enable "Auto updates" for the app in question.

Swift backup does have a "Play store" button on the app I backed up, which will take me to the play store where I can manually download the app, but I was wondering if there's any backup solutions that can automate this process and install every app I had backed up directly from the play store? And from F-Droid too as an added bonus but I'm mostly looking for the Play Store since that's the app store I use the most.

Hope this makes sense, thanks.

I know posts like these appear on this subreddit every other month, but the landscape for Discord alternatives is changing so quickly I feel the need to ask

All I wanna do is chat and send media to a couple of my friends because I absolutely despise Discord and cant wait to delete my account.

The requirements:

- Open source

- Supports ARM

- Servers or Group Chatting

- The more lightweight the better

- I know this is a fat chance but a mobile app would be amazing

- Assuming mobile is not possible, an HTTP based notification system like webhooks or support for NTFY

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi everyone

I just got off the phone with Apple support, and I asked them very simply, "What exactly doesn't get transferred over via Quick Start"

And the representative told me everything should transfer over, but that I should back everything up to iCloud first to make sure its successful

And I've browsed this subreddit along with other Apple forums and I get many conflicting answers as to what Quick start actually transfers

Context: I'm setting up my mom's new iPhone later today. She's going from iPhone XR -> 17

So my questions:

#1 What exactly doesn't Quick start transfer? Does it transfer everything 1:1?

#2 Do I need to back anything up to iCloud?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hello everyone,

Wanted to preface this by praising how well the CM3588 by FriendlyElec has served me. I got into setting up my NAS server roughly 2 years ago, and the CM3588 did everything I needed with minimal power draw and great efficiency.

Unfortunately, it's gotten to a point where my NAS is frequently crashing/rebooting because it runs out of memory.

I'm looking for the best upgrade path with the following criteria:

- Power efficiency is the most important thing on this list. The more efficient the better. I run my NAS 24/7 and I don't wanna double my electricity bill as a result.

- At least 32 GB of RAM if the memory is soldered onto the board. Or 16gb if additional memory can be added at a later time. I wanna have this NAS last me a few years into the future if not more.

- At the bare minimum 4 NVME slots

- WiFi not required

- Bluetooth not required but would be preferable (I currently use an adapter/dongle)

Budget: Preferrably around $200-300 but I'm flexible

The "most intensive" services I run are:

Immich, Nextcloud, Home Assistant, Navidrome, Jellyfin

And I run about 11 other services ranging from security like Authentik and Crowdsec to torrenting like Qbit and fitness like Sparkyfitness and Ryot

Once I get a new board I'm also looking to self-host an AI assistant hence the need to double/triple my RAM. So I can have enough for the AI plus anything else I decide to setup down the road

When it comes to home server equipment I'm a complete noob. Any help would be great. Thank you in advance 😃
