Hello people, of reddit,

I wanted to provide some context before diving into it. I was doom scrolling on TicTok when I came across someone complaining that he doesn't get tips on DoorDash because "people use it as a luxury service and people don't work for free." His words, not mine. While I believe that people should not work for free. It hit me: this is the largest SCAM (next to car insurance) I've ever seen, and people want to normalize it.

Hear me out, from the content creator ideals, I can see why he would be mad.....BUT how can you be mad about a scam you signed up for. I don't understand why someone (even me) would base their financial stability on how people view them for 2-45mins (accounting for delivery drives and waiters/waitresses). I know, there could be times where you can make some real cash from the job but is it really worth it? Now correct me if I'm wrong (I might be), There are two main types of tip-based work, restaurant (host, waiters, bartenders, etc) and drivers (Postmates, DoorDash, UberEats, etc). Restaurants will always have a place in my heart spot not because I've done it before but more so it takes more work to do. Dealing with people on its own is a headache and then you'll would've needed to be nice to the person in hopes you will get a tip. I'm sorry drivers (lol), I have also done your job, and it doesn't fit the bill, while both jobs have its own challenges and should just be a basic wage like any other jobs, my question to you guys is why haven't we? You can say "OH it's because the cost of the meal or order would go up to cover the cost" or " we have this tipping culture and people should just do it from the kindness of their hearts." That's not fully true. If you’re comparing the total cost of a meal (food + service), no-tip countries often have lower totals because tipping is removed.

Step back and really think about. Its system created so the companies don't have to legally pay a worker a basic wage, they are telling you to your face "I DONT WANT TO PAY YOU ALOT OF MONEY SO GO BEG OTHERS." and people really do that, ergo the person on TicTok (lighly comparing). Then if you don't tip, you're seen as the bad person. Which that in itself is crazy because again (step back), You're basically DEMANDING a person to pay your living wage. I'm pretty sure the only people who can demand any money from anyone is our partners and maybe kids (and I guess the uncle sam punk ass lol). Now I get I may come off as the guy who doesn't like to tip, and Im going to be honest, I only tip at restaurants because I get how that person feels. Im not, (by any means) trying to throw stones at a glass house while mine is a sandcastle waiting for the next high tide, but this something we really need to address. What your guy's thoughts on this?
