I’m completely new to this and don’t know where to start so I just want to throw out what I want and equipment I’m working with to see if what I want to do is even possible. I’m acquiring my network connection with a TP link TL-WR1502X AX1500 WiFi 6 portable router through a public network and turning it into a hotspot for Ethernet.
My idea is to take an old ASUS RT-ATC1900P router and convert it into a managed switch to connect my windows pc and my Linux test bench and start to work on understanding firewalls and general networking.
I’m extremely confused and overwhelmed, even with internet resources to go off of. I wanted to know if this is possible and if there is a good starting point to learn the foundation so I can understand what I’m even looking at.
Also, I’m extremely novice in Linux so just because I have that means absolutely nothing in terms of my skills with computers and networks.
