Has anyone had a break up with a person who they believed was their forever person and after which, vowed to stay single because you still love them and don't want to go through it all again?

I'm 29F and my boyfriend and I broke up, but we have both agreed we want to stay friends (if we/I can) because we are still each other's best friends and we both do still love each other. I know I will always love him and I may eventually get over it, but I honestly don't think I could ever move on from him.

I know in my heart I do not want to date anyone else or meet anyone else or anything like that. I know they say "love will come when you stop looking for it" and that was the case with my ex, he came along out of the blue and completely changed my life, all for the better.

But I know I don't want to look for it again, I don't want it to ever cross my path again.

So my question, have you had a break up with someone who you believed was your forever person, and have you stayed single? Has someone come along that you've not allowed yourself to entertain and chosen to stay single?

I know it probably sounds sad and lonely, but I just don't want to feel like I'm alone in feeling this way. Especially when people around me say "oh you can't say you'll stay single forever, you never know who might come along"

It infuriates me.
