Electrics completely shut off and in need some advice.

2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Auto with the 5.7L Hemi.

My mom has this Jeep, and she called me frantic that it just shut off on her while turning into her neighborhood. It completely lost power, as in everything shut off suddenly. The engine, electrical power... everything. She said she tried several times to get it started again, but it wouldn't even try to crank.

Of course, when I get there a few minutes later, it fires right up. What she's describing sounds like an electrical short to me. I've checked the battery connections and it's all clean. I'm going to check all the grounding points, pull the main electrical connection to look for corrosion and look for any evidence of rodents and frayed wires on the harness.

It is throwing a single code for the oil sending unit, which I'm going to replace... but I can't see how that would cause a sudden loss of electrical power outside of it causing a short.

Understandably, she's doesn't trust it to drive. This could have been a very unsafe situation if it happened on the road, let alone the interstate. I'm just happy it happened when she was turning into the subdivision. I just want to make sure I check all my bases and see if there's anything else anyone would recommend I check before having her take it in?

Thanks!
