My husband(38) and I(34) live in US and so does my sister in law(43) and her family. Recently they have purchased a new house and so the in laws are gifting her around 10k USD and are insisting my husband and I to gift her around 2k USD. Is this a justified gifting amount or too much? We are not visiting them for house warming ceremony due to work requirements so the in laws are expecting us to transfer the amount. We are feeling pressured but husband has a hard time standing up for himself in front of his parents and so is trying to justify it all to me. We are in the process of buying our first home and are doing so without any help or support financially. Need some thoughts?
