happened to me three days ago. lost $200
I was sextorted about three days ago. That night I spent hours cooperating with the scammer as they kept asking for $100-200. Most attempts actually failed due to website security precautions, but the asshole finally succeeded as he got me to buy bitcoin and then send him the bitcoin. As if that wasn't unreal enough, dude kept asking for money, and I kept trying to give it, but more security precautions made it impossible. I told the dude that I literally cooperated as much as possible, and finally deleted Telegram. Of course I deactivated my Instagram near the start of that process, but later that night I set my Instagram to be deleted.
After reading some comments here, I made sure to temporarily deactivate my other social media. I was already thinking that Instagram had nudity detection features, but now that I've had time to think about it it's hard to imagine how the scammer would message my friends in a way that they would actually pay see it. Still, I'm on the fence on whether or not to let the Instagram die in a month. I only had a small number of followers and people I was engaging with on there, and I don't want this happening a year from now, so I might just let it die. I'm sure I would have lost more money if not for the people who reported these kind of things in the past, though I'm reluctant to put my information on a form myself.
