5 year old laptop starts acting up randomly aftwr playing 2k14 and it all went downhill
Need help diagnosing laptop BSOD/hardware issue — started after NBA 2K14 MyCareer
My Lenovo laptop started crashing after playing around the 8th game of MyCareer in NBA 2K14. At first I thought it was just the game/mods, but now the entire system is unstable.
Issues/symptoms I’ve had:
- BSOD while playing 2K14
- "BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO"
- "SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION"
- "KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE"
- dump files mentioning "ntoskrnl.exe"
- another dump mentioning VGA boot driver
- "evbda.sys" driver error/corruption
- NVIDIA installer itself BSODs
- apps crash when running as administrator
- Windows reset BSOD’d in the middle of resetting
- black screen/no display at one point
- green fragments/artifacts appeared on screen before crashing
- CPU usage suddenly hit 100% before another BSOD
- “The operating system couldn't be loaded because a critical system driver is missing or contains errors”
Things I already tried:
- System Restore
- attempted Reset This PC
- tried reinstalling NVIDIA drivers
- forcing Advanced Repair/Recovery
Laptop still powers on (lights/fans) but system stability is horrible.
Does this sound more like:
- GPU failure/VRAM issue?
- RAM instability?
- SSD corruption?
- motherboard issue?
And is there anything I can still do software-wise before assuming hardware failure?
Its 5 years old
