Has anyone in New Zealand actually found the public mental health services in New Zealand helpful?
I am a chronic depressive, have been since I was a teenager. Most of the times I've been engaged with the public mental health service it's been pretty average. There have been exceptions. One very good psychologist.
Other than that, I've had a psychologist tell me nothing was going to change in my life if I "sat around doing sweet fuck all" during a debilitating depressive episode when I was younger.
I had a psychologist gaslight me and tell me my debilitating exhaustion was just depression. Later I found out I had glandular fever the whole time.
I'm currently grieving a serious loss and the professional I'm seeing seems completely at a loss as to how to help me process my grief. Guy seems like he's about to panic every time I cry.
I had a therapist get visibly angry with me for not "working hard enough" to get through a traumatic event.
What even is public health in New Zealand?
