The story revolves around a theory of time travel that requires a person to fully immerse themselves in the period they want to travel to. Pretend that it is 1890, dress, eat, act and live in a world that simulates that period as completely as possible, and through a kind of awake hypnosis, you will find yourself in that period as long as you are convinced of the reality of it. Of course it works in the novel.

I know it sounds ridiculous, but have you ever heard of anyone seriously trying to attempt this?
