After having kids, my standards for living room furniture completely changed.
I used to just ask, “Does this look good?”
Now my first thoughts are: Could my kid bump into that corner? Is the sofa deep enough for all of us to actually curl up on it? Will this fabric be a nightmare to clean? Is that coffee table going to feel dangerous the second a kid starts running around?
I’m starting to feel like a real family room can’t just be designed like a magazine photo.
Some sofas look beautiful but are not that comfortable. Some coffee tables look great, but the sharp corners make me nervous.
Lately I’ve been looking more at deep sofas paired with rounded coffee tables, and honestly, that feels way more realistic for a home with kids.
When you’re buying living room furniture, do you care more about the look, or safety and comfort first?
