#12 surprise issue
I went in today for a broken tooth/amalgam crown on #13 - hoping for no root canal but turned out it needed one as well. During the exam they noted a few other issues, but primarily were selling the idea that I should also get #12 done while we were at it since it was showing as a bit problematic.
12 wasn't broken, but also had an ancient filling (I'm 72). But it's a 2 hour drive for me one way to get there and prices are affordable, so I figured why not go for it? The root canal on #13 went OK, but when they got to #12 they said it was thickly calcified - I couldn't quite understand but I think they were saying it was previously infected and the calcification sealed it off - or it was currently infected (not bad or not at all as it wasn't giving me any trouble). In any event they said it was too risky to keep trying to do the root canal - so - to my surprise - they say it needs extraction and implant! For a tooth that wasn't even an issue which is what boggles my mind. Still in shock I guess.
I'm going to get the crown on 13 but wondering what should I do on 12? Can I get a filling and just hold on and schedule another time? (Or hold off until it actually acts up). doing a crown on that one would be a waste I think.
