I'm French, currently living in Southeast Asia, and moving to Switzerland in August to start a new job.
My initial plan was to spend a week in Switzerland in July, do as many viewings as possible, find a flat, and move in before the start of my contract, which would be mid-August.
I've been keeping an eye out on the rental market, and it seems that flats available in August are getting advertised now.
My questions are:
- Is it safe do try and secure a flat remotely without viewing it?
- How likely is it that I can rent a flat without a Swiss guarantor?
- How likely is it that I can rent a flat without my work permit? (My employer said they'd write a letter confirming that a permanent contract has been signed, but I can't have my permit before I move in Switzerland)
- What would be another alternative if I don't manage to rent a flat before my contract starts?
