Update: Dog can’t use back legs

Winston is doing much better and says thanks for all the well wishes. I don’t know what happened, but he is back to being his normal self. Don’t worry, we’re still following up with his regular vet.

PS - The groomer stresses him out, so I’m learning to do it myself. That’s why he has such a badly trimmed muzzle right now. Lil bro doesn’t know how to hold still lol.

Suddenly can’t use back legs

My baby, Winston, is about a year and a half old. He’s always a ball of energy and the world’s best snuggler. Today he suddenly experienced weakness in his legs and couldn’t walk properly anymore. One minute he was fine, the next minute he couldn’t walk.

We rushed him straight to the emergency vet, where they tested him for tick borne diseases (we have a lot of ticks in our area), did bloodwork and an X-ray, but they couldn’t find anything. No tick illnesses, X-rays looked good, bloodwork normal.

The vet said it might be luxating patella. Right now we are managing his pain and he has anti inflammatory medication as well. We’re supposed to give him a few days and then follow up at his regular vet.

It kills me to see him in so much pain. This dog is my baby and I would do anything for him. I know there’s nothing anyone here can do - I just wanted to commiserate with fellow cavapoo families.

Has anything like this ever happened to your cavapoo? What was it? Were they ok? Did they recover? I just want my sweet little boy to not be in pain and get better soon.
