My daughter is 3, and bath times are becoming more of an issue because she hates getting water in her eyes. I'm starting to question what's going on.

Every time basically the same thing happens: whatever method we've agreed on, she will immediately sabotage it, get water in her eyes and scream at me.

She's a physically capable kid so I don't think any of these methods are beyond her, nor does it seem like she's so stressed by the anticipation of water that she can't do them. She's perfectly happy and calm, then it's like every time she's surprised.

So far I've tried everything I can think of:

  • Practicing keeping our eyes closed.
  • Showing her how to wipe water out of her eyes.
  • Playing splashy games to get her used to the water.
  • Giving her a flannel to cover her eyes.
  • Getting her to tilt her head back.
  • Lying her down in the bath.
  • Using a plastic visor (which is more resistant to sabotage but she hates putting it on).

So I'm wondering am I missing some developmental reason she's doing this? Our bath times are otherwise fun and I feel bad she's having such a horrible time with this.
