For context, I (16F) am having a 17th birthday sleepover in a few weeks. I have a limit on how many people I can invite, and most of the people coming are 17–18.
One of the people I invited (we’ll call her Cam, not her real name) and I are just starting to get on good terms again. Back in October we had a falling out and weren’t friends for a while, but about a month ago we both apologized and started talking again. We’re not as close as we used to be, but things have been improving.
Cam has a younger sister (14F), we’ll call her Sadie(not her real name). She has autism and usually needs someone with her most of the time. I genuinely love Sadie. she’s super sweet, fun, and she considers me her best friend. The issue is that lately it’s been feeling like I’m unintentionally babysitting her a lot.
We all go to the same youth group, and Cam tends to leave Sadie with me while she goes off with her friends. Sadie follows me everywhere, interrupts conversations, and I often have to leave more mature conversations because she’s there. She also always sits with me, which can be distracting when I’m trying to listen to the message. This has been happening for almost 2 years.
Anyway, when I invited Cam, she asked if Sadie could come. I don’t like when people ask to bring someone who wasn’t invited, but I usually give in. This time I didn’t, because it’s my birthday and I have limited space. I'll put in a screenshot of what she said.
Now I feel really sad because we were just starting to rebuild our friendship, and this happened. My mom said I should invite people who will make the party fun, not stressful, and having someone much younger who I’d also have to watch the whole time wouldn’t really be fun for me. (also if she came, she can strictly only watch G or PG rated movies, and we planned on watching a horror movie. so id have to find a kids movie for us to watch instead)
