I have a canon 7d mark ii and am looking at options for upgrading my lenses. I saw a suggestion about a 100-400 L with a 1.4x extender. What do you guys recommend with that or if I should steer away from that with bird photography? Does the extender worsen the AF or image quality? I saw the 2x extended does a lot in terms of lowering quality but the 1.4x generally was okay. Is this accurate? If this is a bad setup should I go towards a 150-600 in another lens?

I'm debating a few different lenses to get. I've seen differing opinions on lenses like the Sigma 150-600 contemporary, canon 100-400, and Tamron 150-600 G1 and G2. I'm looking to upgrade from my 55-250 canon lens for something better suited for my bird photography. What do you all recommend I aim to get?
