I brought a blue silkie in early February, and I want to give her a safe space in my backyard. I have other chickens such as Easter eggers and rhode island reds, i cant put her with those as they would attack her. I also have a dog, a border collie who loves to chase my chickens and I know silkies can’t fly as well. My backyard also gets very muddy and I know it’s not ideal. Many people told me not to get the silkie because of all these factors but nonetheless i still did. So I’ve been deciding if I should build her a floating cage on the fence or if a bird cage with the stands, like for parrots would be a good home for her to be outside. Right now she is still in the same spot as when I first brought her home and I feel bad that she’s inside, all alone, and before anyone accuses me of not letting her outside to roam, she does go out with my supervision. I think this wouldn’t be a permanent home for her. She would be outside on sunny days and inside at night and rainy days.
