Turns out my flatmate who just moved in is also an audiophile
So we have two systems in the living room now. He has a Rotel A12 amp and a pair of Monitor Audio speakers (not sure which model). I have a Rega Elex-R and Paradigm Premier 800F speakers. Turntable, CD player and DAC are also mine (vintage Rega Planar 2 with Mayware Formula IV tonearm, not sure about the cartridge, a Marantz CD6005 and an SMSL M8+SMSL P2 linear PSU). Will be making some nitty-gritty comparisons in the following weeks.
