Not in HVAC, so feel free to tell me if I’m way off here or if this isn’t the right sub. I’m trying to understand how big of a problem missed calls / slow replies actually are for smaller HVAC shops where the owner is also out on jobs, driving, quoting, etc.

When someone calls during the day and nobody picks up, what usually happens?

Do they leave a voicemail and wait? Or are they just calling the next company on Google?

Same thing for website forms after hours. If someone fills out a form at 8pm and gets a reply the next morning, is that usually fine, or is that lead basically gone by then? Often i feel that for HVAC services - trust, referrals, existing relationships, and who the customer already knows may matter more than whoever replies first hence I’m not assuming speed is everything. I keep hearing “speed to lead” matters a lot in hvac, but I’m trying to figure out how much of that is real and if issue is genuinely worth solving for.

Context: I’m exploring whether there’s something useful to build for small HVAC/home service companies, but I don’t want to build the wrong thing or add noise.

If this is not actually an important problem, please say that too. That would honestly be useful.
