AoS army planning

Hi all!

Recently started getting into spearhead and trying to future proof some purchases.

I've got the models from cursed city and really dig the radukar, belladama, and dire wolf vibe. I'd like to build towards that, but wasn't sure what troops I should fill in with.

With that in mind, is there one spearhead box or another I should pick up? Both are available at my flgs and wasn't sure if vampire or skeleton focus would help more.

Thank you in advance!

White dwarfs back issues to grab?

Thank you everyone for your input on which box to grab. Looks like we'll be picking up Skaventide.

For spearhead, are there any back issues of white dwarf we should be on the lookout for?

Bit of help please :)

I've been wargaming since I was in 3rd grade (2nd edition 40k and original Necromunda). My son is entering 3rd grade this fall and wants to start building, painting, and playing. I think spearhead is a solid first step but I'm stuck and could use some insight.

I'm stuck between a few options and need people with more experience to weigh in.

  1. Skaventide box at my LGS for $225 before discounts. Seems like a good entry point and nets me the new AOS rulebook plus 2 spearheads and some extra. My son likes the stormcast and they'd be beginner friendly for painting.

  2. City of Ash box also $225 before discount. I really like the skaven inning this box. The cities guys look way too complex for him from a painting standpoint. Any thoughts in the new objectives and other items? I could go this route and sell the cities guys and pick him up a spearhead (he liked seraphon too).

  3. Pick up sand and bone plus each get a spearhead box for him. I've got flesh eater courts (old models) but could proxy enough for my own spearhead.

Additional points, I don't think we'll play AoS 4.0 but the lore in the book might be cool for him

Thoughts? Feedback?
