Nutricanine scammed me

Just wanted to vent and make others aware of this.

A couple of months ago, on March 15, I subscribed to Nutricanine’s “fresh human-grade food” meal plan for my Shih Tzu. Even though it’s over my budget, I wanted the best for him. The subscription was set for one delivery every 4 weeks, so I expected the payment to be deducted around the 15th of each month, followed by delivery within the next few days.

On May 1, I received an email saying they were changing my deliveries to once every 8 weeks instead, meaning I’d receive 8 weeks’ worth of food in one shipment. I didn’t notice this email until last Sunday, when I started questioning the charge on my card.

On May 4, they charged my credit card $303. I noticed the unusually high charge on May 9 and emailed them asking why the amount was so high and why they charged me before the expected date (the 15th of every month).

They replied saying they had already informed me about the change in the May 1 email (which I never approved), and that they process payments one week before the actual due date. That explanation still doesn’t make much sense to me.

I called them today asking for clarification, and they said they would need to check with their manager and get back to me tomorrow. I’m currently waiting for their response and an update on the situation.

Am I at fault for not reading the “merging” email? But I also don’t think it’s fair to make a major subscription change without customer approval. I’ve used subscriptions with Amazon, PetSmart, and Chewy before, and I never had to worry about unexpected changes like this. Usually, it’s “subscribe and don’t worry unless you want to cancel.”

Now not only do I have a huge charge on my card, but I’ll also have to throw away a lot of the food because my freezer simply can’t hold that much product.

And honestly, what’s the point of advertising “fresh food” if they send two months’ worth at once? By the end of the cycle, my dog would be eating meat that’s already over two months old.

Did anyone face similar situations like this with Nutricanine.
