What I went through working in food service in Sri Lanka
I worked at Pizza Hut for like about a year and honestly I didn’t had great experience
The training was really good and I did learnt a lot but the work environment was very toxic and draining most of the time. I used to think like maybe this is just how service jobs are and you just have to deal with it🥲
There were uncomfortable situations too like some customers would make sexual comments even staff does and it was hard to deal with while working. And at the same time teamwork between staff was really bad there was a lot of shouting, disrespect, and tension between kitchen and front counter sometimes even in front of customers instead of actually working as a team
What made it worse for me was the lack of support staff would just see me hearing those anger and from managers and staff there wasn't really anyone standing up or helping when things got difficult. I didn't really know how to deal with it at the time and now I’m thinking that I could have ask help from HR but I kept thinking that I should handle it myself because that's just how it is.It just felt like a lot of pressure and very little support around and we just work continuously I didn’t had time even to think about all of these but keep on working and depressed
I'm not sure if this was just my outlet or if others in food or service jobs in Sri Lanka have experienced the same kind of thing. Or I’m just young to have this experience and this isn’t new
