There have been several "greatest eras" on SNL that fans and critics are generally in agreement on. Certainly, the first five years is in the top three. Not just because they were "the first," but the quality of stuff they generated while finding their way was incredible.

For me, personally, the run from 1986 to 1992 is what I considered "the greatest." The cast was phenomenal and the writers room alone was a murderers row of talent.

What other eras would you put up there?
