Kind of a two parter.

My residence permit runs out before my contract ends, so my school is switching me onto a 30-day T visa before I leave. I said I didn’t think I could work during that time, but they told me they checked with the local bureau and that “admin stuff” (grading, entering marks etc.) is fine so they dropped my exams.

I’m still not convinced tbh. As far as I know you need a valid work permit + residence permit to work in China, and admin would still count as work. Maybe it’s one of those things that’s usually overlooked, but doesn’t seem fully legit on paper.

Second part , just a heads up to people. Make sure your visa transitions are done properly. Even if something is usually ignored, if it does get checked you’re the one on the hook.

Anyone else been in a similar situation or had a clear answer from their local bureau? I am 99% sure it's just the case that it won't be enforced but all it takes is that one time.
