I live in a resort town in a 65 unit apartment building w 3 AirBnb tourist rentals. All of them have issues that make them technically illegal by local laws - but they remain on AirBnB.
The issue is the AirBnb guests cause 90% of the problems in the building and it’s more work for the building security & maintenance staff. Because we all pay the same fees, we are subsidizing those AirBnb guests that take up more staff time.
As just a few examples, they jam open the doors to the building so their friends can enter without keys - sometimes breaking the locks in the process. They return drunk at night & get sick in common areas, sometimes with people they just met. On some days, they take up all the space at the pool and no room for people who own the apartments. In general, it’s a stream of unknown people causing problems.
After a certain point all the tourists look the same - there are no good ones because they’re overshadowed by the bad experiences that require time & money to fix.
So, WIBTAH for telling the AirBnB guests they’re not welcome here ? It’s the truth and every other owner I know feels the same way. The reviews are supposed to accurately reflect the conditions of the apartment & building - in this case, they aren’t welcome at all.
Consider for a minute if you were in my situation- you saved your money, bought a dream apartment & were paying the fees to live there - then an AirBnb pops up next door that with new people all the time who are on vacation & really don’t care about anyone around them. How would you like that ?
