Experiences with adoption?

It has been many years since I adopted a rescue dog, and that was long before I had kids (elementary school aged). We are considering adopting a rescue pup but the 3/3/3 thing has me worried. What if the pup seems to have a great personality at the shelter but then, after settling in at home, has behavioral issues? The last thing I would want is to take a dog home and then have to bring them back.

I guess what I’m wondering is to hear success stories OR cautionary tales from people who have adopted a dog based on just having spent time with the dog on one occasion at a shelter. We did meet a dog who seemed friendly and sweet, but it’s a shelter where you can’t take them home to foster first and the dogs come and go with so much turnover that even the volunteers at the shelter don’t have much insight into the dogs’ personalities and behavior.

I was excited for this to be a great GF snack for him, but my son didn’t love the texture of the Brazi Bites brand. I think too chewy? (Maybe that’s just the way they are? But I seem to recall I have had ones that are a night lighter/fluffier?)

Curious for other brand recs.
