Long time lurker here. I love jewelry! I will buy bundles of costume jewelry and enjoy sorting through and looking for treasures, as well as selling what I dont keep. My Aunt was the epitome of a 40s & 50s princess- she would even wear Rhinestone Tiaras in her updo and I have her to partially thank for my love of vintage pieces.

I recently purchased a bundle of jewelry and this once in a lifetime treasure was hiding inside. After being declined by Sotheby's for further evaluation I felt like I had hit a roadblock. Evaluation by Van Cleef & Arpels could cost over $2000 for one piece, and this is two. I started to do my own research, primarily hoping to find evidence it was the real deal. I started scouring vintage Vouge ads from the 1920s through the 80s and was able to narrow down the design to the late 50s and early 60s. Then going issue by issue and year by year I hit another jackpot. I found the bracelet and charm in an original 1959 ad for Van Cleef & Arpels. I still feel like its a dream!

I wanted to make another post to share this information because many were following along in my quest! Im just so excited about this I can hardly contain it!

Update 4/30; Sotheby's declined further evaluation. Looks like I will be reaching out to M.S. Rau! I am also willing to contact Van Cleef & Arpels if all else fails and have a full record and assessment done. Has anyone here gone through the process? I wonder if they would consider it two seperate assessments. XRF confirmed the bracelet is 14k and pendant/charm tested between 72% and 75% (18k)

Update 2: 4/30- While Sotheby's declined further evaluation and my research into contacting M.S. Rau of New Orleans seems to end rather swiftly- as they require substantial provenance and appraisals prior. This little roadblock left me feeling like I was going to HAVE to pay a small fortune to Van Cleef to establish authenticity. All this led me to go on a very fruitful hunt!! I started researching advertisements from the 1920s all the way thru the 80s. I was able to narrow the design down to the late 50s or 60s. Then I started searching for advertisements for each year...I got to 1959 and hit another jackpot. I found THE BRACELET as a set!! Im just beside myself, elated!! I purchased the advertisement and with this information I've narrowed down the boutique it was from and the year. 😭😭😭

Purchased this in a large estate lot and im still having a hard time believing its the real deal. Did I really just find a Vintage Van Cleef & Arpels?! I have reached out to Sotheby's and have made an appointment for with a local Jeweler. I primarily buy and sell small lots of costume Jewelry and occasionally I will find beautiful gold pieces- but this...a once in a lifetime find for me!
