Hello Trail Runners,
For lack of better options and convenience, I gave energy gels another go (fastnup). It was a 3 hour 10 min trail running session, steep incline initially, so needed a boost up after the first 30 minutes in the run and the taste was just disgusting (lemon-lime flavour). Then after the second gel that I took 35 mins later made me feel nauseous and bloated. My stomach felt like a brick. Why does that happen? I am not sure why that happens?
More experienced runners say to train with gels so it gets better as you get used to it, but I feel it is getting worse. Worst of all I could not finish the session even though I have trained for it.
On the other hand, I tried honey and salt tabs and it felt much better. I had to stop and scoop out honey, which was inconvenient, but I did not feel like shit. This was during training.
I have taken gels during training too, but the artificial taste and what not gets to me...
Does this happen to anyone else or is it just a me problem? Should I give gels another go?
