Hello! First of all some context: We were due to fly back to the UK from Lyon via Amsterdam on 3/01/26, due to poor weather in Amsterdam our flight was cancelled and rescheduled for 5/01/26. This meant we had to spend an additional 2 nights in France (as a family of 4, so roughly 600€ for a budget airport hotel). We received food vouchers and were told by ground staff to book a hotel and claim it back.
Our request (which we submitted in January) has just been rejected as regulation EU261 does not apply due to the cancellation reason being weather. Just to be clear we aren’t claiming compensation, just duty of care. I understand compensation isn’t required if the weather conditions are poor. Surely they have to pay out for duty of care or am i incorrect?
