Wax is running in columns up the side

Some of you amazing folks may remember me asking a couple weeks ago for lava lamp recommendations for my daughters birthday. I got so much awesome help and I went with a Grande. My daughter absolutely loves it, but it's not flowing right. The wax forms these long columns up the sides with very little doing the lava blob thing that we expected.

I'm afraid her room may be too cold, but it's within the "ideal" range that I found in the info booklet that came with it. Around 75 during day and 70-72 at night. It is near a window with the shutters closed but we live in a hot climate so a cold draft isn't an issue from the window.

I let it run for a couple days straight hoping that would get things going but it just got worse.

I turned it off for a day and wax just stayed clung to the sides.

I freed up some by using a hair dryer on it and it's currently wrapped in foil. If that doesn't work, any suggestions would be appreciated.

First off, holy smokes I hadn't realized the lava lamp scene was still thriving! You all have some gorgeous collections!

My daughter (16) is an "old soul", room full of thrift furniture finds. All the different weird glass like carnival & uranium glass, UV lights, dried flowers, her art work...you get the vibe. I wanted to get her a lava lamp to go with a boombox I found for her to listen to her tapes and cds and I hadn't realized how huge this was still. I've been scrolling through and have picked up on some brands but many aren't available here in the US and others just everyone knows what it is and no one mentions brand (like those wild wall mount ones).

So yea, I'm in the US and would really really like to get my daughter a good quality lamp or two with a budget of $50-$150. I can't say there's any real preference on size or table/wall/floor version. I just don't want to buy my girl the first junk I find online. Any recommendations or tips would be appreciated!
