>Your sister is missing. She came to these woods chasing rumors of a village that disappeared, an ancient curse, and a single name at the heart of it all: Elias Grene. Will you find her before the curse finds you?

Hey everyone,

First time posting here! I’m working on a branching narrative horror game called Whispers of the Wendigo, and I’m looking for feedback from people who enjoy interactive fiction, choice-driven stories, and horror.

It’s a free downloadable Windows prototype on itch.io. Just download the ZIP, unzip it, and run the .exe. No installation required.

This is still an early prototype. It does not have final artwork, music, sound, or full UI polish yet. The main thing I’m testing right now is whether the structure works as an interactive story.

The build includes:

  • branching choices
  • hidden/optional story details
  • timed decisions during pressure moments
  • failure states
  • chase sequences
  • multiple outcomes

I’d love feedback on:

  • Is the story is clear?
  • Are the choices feel meaningful?
  • Does the pacing work?
  • Do the timed choices feel fair?
  • Do any routes or transitions feel confusing?
  • Does the horror/tension comes through with the current presentation?
  • Does the game feel worth replaying?

Thanks for checking it out. I’m especially interested in feedback on the writing, choice structure, and pacing.

Platform:
Windows

Description:
Whispers of the Wendigo is a branching narrative horror prototype about searching for your missing sister in a cursed forest while something stalks you through the trees. The game is text-driven and choice-based, with a focus on atmosphere, tension, replayability, and different outcomes based on the paths you take.

This is an early public playtest build, so it does not have final artwork, music, sound design, or full presentation polish yet. Right now, I’m mainly looking for feedback on the story structure, pacing, choice clarity, timed decisions, failure states, and whether the game feels worth replaying.

The current build includes branching routes, timed choices during high-pressure moments, chase/escape sequences, hidden story details, death/failure scenes, and multiple outcomes. Some areas may also change depending on how you move through the game.

It is a free Windows download through itch.io. Download the ZIP file, unzip it, and run the .exe. No installation required.

I also have a feedback form linked on the itch page, and I’d really appreciate any notes, even if they’re short.

Involvement:
I’m the solo developer on this project. I designed and wrote the branching narrative, built the prototype, implemented the choice structure, timed decisions, failure states, and current playable flow. This is still an early version, so I’m using this playtest to figure out what works, what is confusing, and what should be improved before adding more polish, music, art, and menus.
