Internal Root Resorption ?

Internal Root Resorption ?

Hi there, and thank you in advance for any help provided.

My dentist called me a bit out of the blue today after Xrays a few weeks ago and said that I may lose my right bottom front tooth due to internal root resorption, which is “rare.” He believes this is from trauma, and has been there for awhile and is referring me to the endodontist for next steps - but he is unfortunately out of the office for a week and I am extremely anxious about this since I am freshly postpartum and nursing twins and it’s obviously the front of my smile.

My questions are:

  1. does this diagnosis seem correct?
  2. if so, how severe does this look and could root canal save the tooth?
  3. if a root canal is pursued, how long would that last or will it be a reoccurring problem?
  4. are implants on the front bottom teeth usually successful? I have read that this is a difficult area due to how small it is.
  5. could this be caused by a hawley retainer? This is a tooth that randomly began to twist after removing my permanent bottom retainer and I have worn my hawley religiously every night since. My old orthodontist put a spring there to try and push the tooth back into place.
  6. id it’s been there awhile, how could this have been missed?

Thanks for any answers to these questions that you can provide. As you can likely see, I’ve had maxiofacial surgery about 25 years ago and things have been tough lately, so I can’t help but be a little emotional about this.
