My brother and I were very close in age -2 years. While we weren’t the best of friends growing up, I always knew that he was around and we always went to the same schools for the most part. My kids are four years apart so other than an elementary school, they won’t be together at the same school again. For example, by the time my son is a freshman high school my daughter will be a freshman in college. Has anyone had this age gap before and felt like the kids still had a good relationship as they aged? I’m overly concerned even though I know there’s nothing I can do about them growing apart as they get older.

My son will be turning 5 in mid October. He has already done pre k and our district offers a program called kindergarten prep (also called developmental kindergarten or young 5s in other districts.)
It is specifically for kids born Sept 1 to December 1st. If we did the program he would do this and then regular kindergarten the next year. I think this makes sense so he would be the oldest vs the youngest in his class but one of my family members is pushing back and thinks we are making the wrong decision since my son already knows basic phonics. (Can’t read yet.) has anyone done this kind of program with their child in this birthday range? I want to make sure that I’m not making a mistake by (how was my family member calls it “holding him back.”
Thanks in advance for experiences
