For people looking for a tablet to consume media / read manga, I would highly recommend the Onn 8 2026. The Onn 7 2026, not so much.

The onn 8 2026 has multiple strengths. 90hz refresh rate, Left and right speakers, 3:2 aspect ratio, ipad mini form factor. I have not encountered any lag or stuttering with the 6gb of ram. The devices feels silky smooth to use and bounce around apps. Do be warned that the Onn 2024 cases and screen protectors don't fit with its new form factor. Ipad mini cases and screen protectors are to big for the tablet as Onn 8 is about 2-3mm smaller then the ipad mini.

The onn 7 2026 has little to no strengths. The 16:9 aspect ratio is great for media and reading mangas but that's about it. Bottom firing speakers, 60 hz refresh rate, and 4gb or ram. The tablet feels slow and swapping between apps have a noticeable lag with constant reload and refreshes in between. Just changing the wallpaper on the tablet causes the tablet to crash and display the Onn boot screen until it closes the settings app. I believe that the tablet uses the full version of android 16 rather than the go edition which is causing the tablet to bottleneck on the 4gb or ram.

It may sound hypocritical but I will be sticking to the onn 7 for my use case as I primarily use it to read manga and the 16:9 aspect ratio is a big plus for me. I will be rooting and installing android 16 go if it exits and becomes available.

Device weight

Onn 8 - 285g

Onn 7 - 254g
