Art or slop?

So a bit of backstory:

I am interested in digital aesthetics (amongst other things), and I have always liked playing with technology to get different kind of visuals. From the early days of glitch art to now with generative AI, but JPEG compression artifacts have always been a particular focus.

I recently completed this oil painting using midjourney as part of the initial process, but had a bit of a back and forth with photoshop editing to distort the colours, and eventually the composition and tweaking of the compression parameters until I got something I wanted work with. And then from there I modified colours and eventually texture a bit with actual paint. I just wanted to see how it turned out to my other compression paintings where I have used different sources and concepts but similar format.

Then I started talking about my process in my stories and got some flack for not tagging my initial Instagram post with an AI tag, and that it is deceitful to not be upfront about the use of AI at some point in the process. And it’s wrong of me to exhibit this physical oil painting (how else are people going to see the painting??)

But I am really struggling to understand that there is really anything wrong with this. I really don’t feel I am being deceitful, just by not disclosing this information on one casual post I made about it. I also feel like it’s almost conceptually more interesting that I did use AI, in context with my other paintings from this same series. Idk, I’m open to hear why this is wrong but I don’t think I will understand.

I also think it’s fine to use AI in art if you make it your own thing. It’s a tool imo.

TL;DR
I’m a filthy clanker simp that lies their way through life

Vegan fry-up at a British themed pub in Paris. The falafel was an odd addition.

€16.50, The Bombardier, Paris. 7/10 pretty solid. The falafel really didn’t compliment the other elements but I appreciate the effort.
