Terrible infestation of these pests on my Russian plum. Is this scale insect infestation or something else? Are there any treatments I can use to solve this? More details in the image description.

It was planted 4 years ago, it has been growing great, and it has been bearing fruit since the second year. It has never had anything like this before. Last autumn I built a shed right next to it, so now it is basically in the shade all day.

I assume that created the conditions for this situation, since there is moisture and shade, which makes it favorable for these insects.

I’d appreciate recommendations on how to get rid of them. Pesticides are fine, it doesn’t have to be organic.

I have 40 more that are in the sun and none of those have these things.

The experiment partially failed. I keep this lemon tree in my office. My colleague forgot to water it while I was away for 10 work days, even though I asked her to do it. Only the bottom kumquat graft is alive and both air layerings are fine, but the reminig 3 grafts have failed. More photos in comm

How long did you wait for roots to develop from the moment of air layering? Mine have been like this for a month already, these two air-layered branches, and I’ll wait at least another month. Hopefully by then they’ll be ready to be cut off and planted in separate pots.

I started in the begining of April by girdling these two branches by removing a strip of bark about 2 cm wide all the way around them. Then I used moist, loose compost soil and wrapped it like this together with plastic wrap. The soil still feels soft and moist to the touch. The branches above look healthy and are continuing to grow, so I hope root development has started. How long did you wait?

I grow 3 different lemons, 2 oranges, 1 kumquat, and one mandarin. I already grafted kumquat on this lemon when someone gave me a cutting of persian lime. Decided to graft it here and do some air layering so that I have both kumquat and a lime.
