Hello everyone! I hope you will read all of this and help me with some gentle advice. I’ve been dying my hair with henna for more than half of my life. Actually, a lot of people thought that was my natural colour. It was a budget and very convenient way to dye my hair - it didn’t fade as regular hair dye and I just had to do my roots, that’s it. But a few years ago I wanted a change (it’s been growing in me for a long time). I bleached my hair without any problems, but it was still yellow and I didn’t want to ruin my hair anymore, so I decided just to wait and grow it out. My plan was to then bleach my hair and dye it bright colours (I wanted aquamarine green). But… I have a hair loss problem, and now it’s getting worse. Within the past few years my hair got thinner (I mean both in quantity and the structure of individual hair strand), so I’m not sure if I want to make it even weaker with bleach… So now I’m kind of stuck. I don’t know what to do next. At first I thought I will just grow my natural hair (I think it’s dark ash blonde, approx. level 7). My hairdresser says I have a very nice colour and she likes it even more than henna. I’m not sure because, first - I have grey hair and I think it makes me look older which I’m not a fan of, and second - I love to dress alt/goth and I think my natural hair will look just dull and boring. I’ve tried to use some direct dyes on my natural hair but they fade so quickly and the upkeep is incredibly annoying (I have to redo it after every 3-5 washes).

The first picture is how I look now: so faded and washed out, it’s embarrassing… At the top of my head is my natural colour, then faded direct dye that is stuck in my natural hair, and the lighter part at the bottom it what’s left from henna regrowth. I will also add pictures of me with ginger henna hair from a few years ago.

I feel lost and I don’t know what should I do next? Option 1: go back to henna (not sure if I wanna do this but it looked good?) I really want a shag cut and ‘black fox tips’, will it look good with henna?

Option 2: dye it all with natural ash colour, similar to mine, just to try how I like it. Option 3: gently bleach it and have fun with bright colours while I still can. Option 4: continue to use direct dyes on my natural hair

If you’ve read all of this - thank you!🙏🏻 Any advice will be appreciated.
