At an estate sale this AM, I picked up this jointer (?) plane. I will at minimum clean it up for shelf duty. Question is do I go all the way with flattening the sole (and then true the irons, obv.). The bottom is convex, the middle would have to be shaved down 1/32nd or so. My initial thought is to use the power jointer, but I could also go with the numerous suggestions in this sub about glued-sandpaper-on-a-long-flat surface approach. That does sound like a lot of work though. The top is concave - I'd probably only sand and refinish and skip the flattening step for it.
The real issue with this is that the throat has several splits. That makes me think it might not be worth the effort to fully restore.
Thoughts? Tips?
