Hi friends,

I am 30 weeks 1 day. For the past year or two I’ve had very intermittent pain when biting down or when waking up after grinding my teeth in my back molar (I had a root canal there). It wasn’t painful enough for me to get checked out so I chose to ignore it. Fairly recently I had a routine dental and they told me they saw a shadow under that tooth which usually indicates an infection from a failed root canal and told me to go to the endodontist. I went back and they used this digital xray machine and they told me I for sure needed retreatment and that I shouldn’t wait. They said it could be dangerous for the baby if it spreads (but this is not likely to happen in the next 8-10 weeks).

They want me to take 3 days of amoxicillin before the retreatment, and then 2 days after. They will numb my mouth but not with epinephrine. Then they pack the tooth with something that helps kill the infection. Then I come back a few weeks later for them to crown it

My OB didn’t seem concerned but I hate the idea of blasting my baby with a week of antibiotics and then getting oral numbing meds. Am I being dense? What would you do?
