Having a lot of trouble setting up an older hardware FX unit in Cubase 9, could use some help fixing infinite feedback. (Cubase 9 Pro / Focusrite Scarlett 8i6 / TC Electronics M3000)

DAW: Cubase 9 Pro

Audio Interface: Focusrite Scarlett 8i6 Gen 3

Hardware FX Unit: TC Electronic M3000

So, I'm assuming the issue might be something in the Focusrite Control Panel but I'm not sure. Basically, I two TS to XLR cables running from Stereo Out 3 & 4 on my 8i6 going into the inputs on the M3000. I've then got two TS to XLR cables going from the output of the M3000 into the Stereo In 3 & 4 on my 8i6. In terms on monitoring, I've got headphones in the front headphone port 2 (1 doesn't work), and my Roland XV-5080 hooked up with MIDI input and output, as well as audio running in to Stereo In 1 & 2 on the 8i6.

I've routed it probably correctly in Cubase. I've got my Stereo Out pointing at Output 1 & 2 on the 8i6, not got monitors but the headphones work fine as well. I've got my input set up fine with the XV-5080 which works fine. For external FX, I've got the send set to Output 3 & 4 and the receive set to Input 3 & 4.

For the longest time, I couldn't figure out why I wasn't getting any sound, but it occured to me that I hadn't turned up the monitor knob on te 8i6 at all. After doing that, I got reverb, albeit sounding as if I was hearing the project through both the 8i6's headphone port and through some kind of loop back into it with the M3000 FX unit. Once I added reverb, I started getting an infinite reverb feedback look.

I've heard suggestions this has something to do with direct monitoring but I have no button for this like I used to on my old interface so I have no idea.

Anyone else set up hardware FX with a Focusrite in Cubase got any ideas?

Edit: 99% sure Focusrite Control is doing something smart which isn't helping here. Any ideas?
