Well, I'm lounging on my deck, 3 days post op after my hysterectomy. And I'm feeling good, so here's what I went through. Sorry, if this is all over the place lol my thoughts are everywhere!
I was diagnosed with a intramural fibroid 16cm and a subserosal fibroid 3cm, my uterus was measuring 21cm! (Diagnosed October 2025) For years prior to the diagnosis I had all the symptoms that many of you have been going through. I just knew i wasnt myself, i was a shell. Once i had my diagnosis and spoke to my doctor/surgeon I went back and forth between a hysterectomy and a myomectomy but ultimately decided the hysterectomy was the right choice. The thought of reoccurance after what I just went through for years was why I chose the way I did. Starting in January 2026 I did 3 shots of lupron to shrink the mass and prevent blood lose during surgery. That was a bit of a wild ride, but in the end worth it.
Had my surgery this past Tuesday. My surgeon said the surgery went exceptionally well, no complications and I was able to keep my ovaries and cervix. They did the surgery laproscopicly but the removal was done via a bikini line incision. The mass they removed was 7lbs!! I was carrying around a bowling ball, crazy! In the end I was told the hysterectomy was my only option because my uterus could not be found, it was tangled into the fibroid, which is even crazier. I'm glad I chose the hysterectomy to begin with.
I stayed in the hospital on Tuesday night. The night in the hospital was the worst part, the gas pain in the shoulder was horrible and the only thing to relieve it was to walk. I was able to get myself in and out of the hospital bed about 9 hours after the surgery. It was not easy at all but I had to keep getting up between naps because I couldnt take the shoulder pain. My incisions hurt way less than the gas pain. It got better once I got home and did laps around my house and took some gas x.
Now that I've been home for 3 days, I have to say im feeling great! Definitely taking things extremely slow and listening to my doctor. Still keeping the pain management schedule as prescribed. Husband is doing everything but I can get move around easily, the only thing I cant do is get up from my bed lol. Its too soft for me to get leverage to pick myself out of it, but im sure in a few days itll be better.
But basically, I'm writing this because I'm just so happy! I was suffering for so long and FINALLY I can look forward to being me again. In a couple days I turn 40 and im looking forward to a happy and healthy new decade!! Leaving this all in the past.
And I want to thank all of you for sharing your stories. It helped me make my decision and I knew once the surgery was over, I would be heading into better days. I learned more from you all than I did my own care team. So thanks again! And best of luck to all of you going through this. Just know you will be alright!!
