1936 National Socialist propaganda book (in German)

Gerard Pantel’s Befehl Deutschland : ein Tagebuch vom Kampf um Berlin

114 pages, with dust jacket (intact with slight crease damage/tear upper right front and bottom left front of DJ), book is overall in good shape. Has all pages, no major damage such as water, mold, etc. Contains no handwriting or ex libris/previous owner info.

Published in Germany 1936 with mentions of the parties you would expect (Goebbels, Hitler, etc) one example pictured. Book is in old German script - see sample page with the story of an early “martyr” in the movement.

This is only for ethical sale, to a researcher, historian, etc. I don’t believe in censorship but I’m also not interested in furthering anybody’s romance with this particular ideology.

US $250 OBO in the case of multiple parties, plus postage/shipping to wherever you are. PayPal/Venmo/Zelle - price based on last known sales in Germany, it doesn’t come up for sale frequently.

Found this today at the thrift store

It’s not super fancy - it’s a knockoff of the Sony sport Walkmans from back in the day. But it is heavy duty, has a latch like those did, and is rubberized/bouncy in case of drops.

I thought it was a Sony at first and really wanted to grab it for the price ($15) then started testing it. Found some batteries, it plays, tested with headphones, works well. FF and Play and Stop buttons all work. No auto reverse. In fact, no regular reverse! Just flip the tape and fast forward for that. No biggie. Less moving parts means less things can go wrong. The belts all seem to be fine in there, or whatever mechanism. The heads deploy, play, and the speed is correct.

It does have a radio in it AM/FM, and a selector knob/volume knob of course.

Anybody know what the straight edge screw is for on the back? Looks like it tightens/loosens. Could that be a pitch/speed adjustment? For fine tuning it? That’s all I can think of, but idk why you’d need to adjust that, unless it gets off and you fix it by turning that.

Found at the thrift today, 1936 National Socialist propaganda? (In German)

Gerard Pantel’s Befehl Deutschland : ein Tagebuch vom Kampf um Berlin

found this today at Saver’s and grabbed it because it was fairly cheap and interesting. Can’t find any online listings for it. Reading through, it’s in the old style German script that is pretty difficult to read but I see mentions of Goebbels and Hitler and so forth.

Not sure I want to keep it, might want to sell it online but I don’t want to further anybody’s efforts who are actual believers of this kind of stuff. Would like it preserved by a historian who studies this material though. Maybe someone can stop our current attempt at speedrunning a fascist dictatorship in my country.

Can anyone help me with this or does anyone have any interest in it?

Suzuki Beane - Sandra Scoppettone

I found a curious book in a little free library. It’s hardbound and written in beatnik/hippie jargon, from the perspective of a little girl growing up in I think Greenwich Village in the early 60s.

Copyright is 1961 from the info I found in the book.

The condition is not great. All the pages are there, but it smells of smoke and patchouli. It has been fixed with cellotape to put the front and back cover and page section back together. Someone has cut a small section (1.5” x 1.5”) out of one of the final ends piece pages, probably removing one of the drawings of the book’s main character.

I’ve attached some photos I took. It’s hard for me to tell when this edition/printing is from. It says copyright 1961 and has no other information. However, I looked online and found a signed first edition (listed for $2500!) and the publishing info in that one looks like mine but also says “First Edition” at the bottom of it.

That said, I could tell from looking at the book that it was interesting and fairly old. Is this one I have worth anything to people who might be looking for the book?

I like it for my interest in YA literature, semi-subversive stuff, books that have their own glossary, and beatnik-beat poets type stuff. I’m just trying to figure out a little more about the book to know what I have and care for it appropriately.
