A question and concern for those with more knowledge than myself...
The seating layout in the Kinkisharyo trains on the A,C,E,K lines are problematic for many reasons:
- narrow pass thru, restricts movement when doors traffic is blocked
- inefficient seating pattern, most double seats are taken by one person
- Narrow entrance box creates trap point for strollers, wheelchairs, bikes, etc.
- extremely tight leg room, people over 6'0" are essentially barred from use unless single
- dramatically limits car capacity with oversized seating area.
Has Metro reviewed the idea of removing some of the forward facing seats? Expanding standing area? Creating more roll-on storage area?
Is there a reason why this would be a bad idea?
I feel like every time I ride the A train now, the train feels overpacked and chaotic in the boarding area and underutilized in the seating areas. Does anybody else notice this?
EDIT: I should also note that I've googled photos of every major metro system in the world and side seating seems to dominate in about 90% of the systems worldwide. LA is definitely the outlier.
