Hi all,
I was advised to ask here for some general legal guidance.
1. Posting about an in-camera Circuit Court hearing
There was a recent Circuit Court hearing held in camera, and the other party had previously been told not to post about me or the matter online.
Despite that, after the hearing they posted a video on social media referencing the case and describing what happened (in a way I believe is inaccurate), which led to public commentary. This post was later removed but had significant engagement beforehand.
My questions are:
Is posting about an in-camera Circuit Court hearing a breach of Irish law?
Does the fact they were already told not to post make this more serious?
What is the usual route to deal with this (Garda complaint, going back to court, contempt proceedings, etc.)?
2. False statements under oath
I also believe the same person made statements under oath during proceedings that are not true.
What is the threshold for perjury in Ireland?
Is this something an individual can pursue, or does it have to go through Gardaí / the DPP?
In reality, how often is this enforced?
There are court orders in place between the parties, including restrictions around contact and social media. I’m trying to handle this properly and not escalate things or breach anything myself.
Any advice on how situations like this are usually handled in Ireland would really help.
Thank you 🙏
