Kobo build quality?
I wasn’t sure if I should post this here or in the general e-reader group but figured I’d start here. The only e-reader I’ve ever had is a Kindle Keyboard, which is still going strong other than the battery needing charging more frequently, but of course will soon no longer be able to download books from Amazon. I’ve been looking at the options for a new e-reader to buy in the next couple of months and had settled on the Kobo Clara BW but I’m getting concerned by how many posts I’m seeing about brand new Kobos arriving with flaws in the screen, uneven front lighting, and screens freezing or breaking/cracking pretty easily.
My old Kindle has a deep scratch in one corner that happened so long ago that I don’t even remember how I did it but it didn’t cause any problems with the display at all. I’ve dropped it more times than I can count, often with the hard case that’s on it open and not covering the screen, and transported it in handbags and backpacks etc. Were the e-readers that were made more than a decade ago just a lot hardier in general and newer Kindles also damage easily, or is this issue with seeming to be somewhat fragile specific to Kobo?
