I thought I'd post about my experiences with both Mounjaro & Wegovy and the pros and cons of both. Hopefully it may help someone thinking about starting one or the other and maybe moving from one to another.
Mounjaro for the first time: So, it all started in March 2025. I was 17 stones and started Mounjaro. I did the usual 2.5mg and stepped up my dose every month until I was forced to stop due to the cost at around September 2025. In those 6 months, I lost 4 stones. Yep! Massive success!
I managed to maintain my weight without medication (more or less. I put on 7 pounds and managed to get it back off) until December, but it was VERY difficult and I was ravenously hungry, soooo, I decided I'd try Wegovy.
My findings on Wegovy: I started Wegovy in January 2026. Did it work? Well I was on it until April 2025 and I maintained. I didn't lose any more weight. that stayed off. I was hungry. I went to the highest dose I could, but it felt completely different to Mounjaro. It WILL work for some though. I think if you started on Mounjaro, you will find Wegovy not as effective. If you START on Wegovy, it may work wonderfully.
How Wegovy worked was completely different for me. Rather than remove the hunger totally like Mounjaro, it suppressed hunger a bit and I found I was unable to eat as much. If I bolted food and ate too much before realising I was full (the perils of being a greedy cow), I would feel ill and have terrible stomach cramps afterwards. If punishment for eating too much works for you, then Wegovy will work for you. It certainly kept me maintaining. I didn't put ANY weight back on while taking Wegovy, but I also didn't lose any more.
So 2 weeks ago, I decided to go back to Mounjaro (thanks to some folks generously using my referral code). I went on 5mg and intend to stay here as I simply cannot afford to go up to a higher dose. Having previously taken 15mg of Mounjaro, I wasn't sure what to expect. So 5mg definitely doesn't work like a high dose for me now, but it does enable me to maintain at 13 stones (I actually lost 2 lbs in 2 weeks). I would love to lose another 2-3 stones, but unless I was able to afford a higher dose of Mounjaro, its doubtful that will happen. I however am more comfortable eating less without the hideous stomach cramping that came with over indulging on Wegovy. However if you have better control than me with food. Wegovy could work just as well for you as Mounjaro. Different things work for different people. Don't write it off immediately and if you haven't started ANY weight loss injections yet, I would recommend Wegovy as once you try Mounjaro, other brands will probably not work as well for you.
So what did I learn?
If the dose is working for you, don't move up! It may continue to work at that low dose for some time and you could save yourself a fortune. I have a friend who has been on 2.5mg of Mounjaro for 8 months and has lost 7 stones! (granted he was 28 stones to start with, but he has been doing fabulously on the lowest dose). Its working, so he sees no point in increasing.
Mounjaro is a more effective appetite suppressant.. The difference with Mounjaro and the amount I wanted to eat (or indeed could eat) was immense. It felt like a miracle drug. Wegovy worked for me by causing hideous side effects when I ate too much. For a lot of people this may work, for me sadly, I love food too much and just kept leaving myself in agony after over indulging.
I experienced NO side effects on Mounjaro other than a bit of mild constipation. I know this won't be the case for everyone, but there was no real negative for me. With Wegovy I had 1 night of awful vomitting after eating too much. Other than that, the only side effects was stomach cramping when I ate too much.
If you haven't tried any weight loss treatment yet, I would encourage you to start with Wegovy. Its much cheaper and I honestly feel a lot of people are having bad results with it simply because they tried Mounjaro first. There's a reason its more expensive.
So hopefully that may be useful to some of you. I will update you after another couple of months on whether I managed to lose any more weight. I am going on holiday in August 2026 and desperately want to get 1 stone off. I have 3.5 months! Can I do it????
Finally I would recommend BOLT PHARMACY. They have been great and seem to be much cheaper than a lot of companies. You can also pay to subscribe for your treatment (cancelling whenever you want) which lowers your monthly cost.
The money off codes are also worth more with BOLT, generally £40 off rather than £20 that a lot offer. So obviously after writing that tome, I'm going to stick my referral code here in the hope that some of you use it. Help this fat lass shed a bit more before her holibobs! 😃 Let me know your experiences and what worked for you.
